Studying the science of art and the art of science

The Science of Art My art cycles continue Figure drawing is a huge challenge for me. "No art project is ever complete" but I am trying to motivate myself to get started at least, using art books that I have collected.  The first art book I have is the Nude Figure: A visual reference for the artist by Mark Edward Smith.  I have struggled with this book for a long time trying to get the figures drawn just right.  Above is a photo of one recent attempt. Make Magic instead of sense Once upon a time I had goals to be an animator and work at Disney.  Then I failed my first animation class and gave up.  Also I realized that selling out isn't what it's cracked up to be. I need to create something that will achieve my goals without becoming a brainwashing agent for a huge corporation. Now my goal is to draw people.   I've decided to simplify my goals, and narrow them down to simply drawing. I will make drawing a daily habit that gives me joy.  I don...

The Garden of Good and Evil

Spring in the Garden State ⚘⁕⚘⁕ ⚘ 🎕💮 The first day of spring has sprung 💮 🎕 ⚘⁕⚘⁕ ⚘ Welcome back or merrily met! Mantra: Nothing is finished Contradictions We all live our lives with contradictions and one of my favorite quotes about this is:   "Do not worry about your contradictions.  Persephone is both Floral Maiden and Queen of Death."   I think people find that you are hypocritical if you are to contradict yourself.  But life is like that, isn't it?  Maybe people are born to die or vice versa, but we are alive and therefore must continue to grow and change.  Whether that means we are naive yet sinners, or otherwise conflicted, we are allowed to be.  That is nature.   Currently I am in a state of being one foot inside of two religions.  Although it's considered a sin, I find some part of me is still fascinated by Catholicism, the celebrations and rituals, and the beauty of cathedrals and statues of the virgin mother. ...

What's After Yule?

Image
W hat's after  Yule? Quote: If it's your calling, it will keep calling until you listen.  -Unknown Shizentai   自然体 : Japanese for remaining true to oneself without putting on airs or forcing unnatural behaviors. A Christmas Carol When I think of Yule or Christmas I usually think of A Christmas Carol.  That story really touches my little witchy heart, and makes me feel like Scrooge all over again.  I always reflect that I should be more generous and less worried about saving money or spending it pointlessly.  Of course, I know I should save it too, but I want to think about helping others more in the coming new year, 2025. Mass    My sister is a nun, and she always tells us how sad it is that people always stop celebrating Christmas before it's actually over.  Apparently, Christmas goes halfway into J...

Autumn Rain

Image
Bring on the Autumn Rain Japanese word: Rakuyou - meaning fallen leaves. Setting intentions:  Be positive about the future. Let's celebrate the first month of fall together!  September is almost over, so we must receive its gifts with open arms while it's still here.  The misty and muggy days of this month are as beautiful if not more so, than the summer days of August.  Let's enjoy them.  I spend my fall months pinning on pinterest collecting stickers, and chatting on facebook, with friends.  I even go outside for a walk in the foggy afternoon, sometimes.  It's a great feeling when the heat of summer begins to trickle away.  I was born in the fall so I truly love it.   Ancestors  The dark, early evening twilights are the best time of day in fall, I believe.  It's when the vampires begin to stir and the monsters begin to creep about in graveyards.  I look forward more and more to Halloween because it is about celebra...

Learning about Paganism in Fall Quote: The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding- Dipen Parmar. Mantra: I embrace my mental illness as part of myself, and work to do better to be healthy overall. Japanese term:  Tsukimi - moon viewing Justice ⚖ My tarot card and meaning: Justice, aka cause and effect.  My book on this card said that Justice sits in front of pillars which are different from those of the high priestess.  They lead to different "worlds".  So that was vague to me.  Though I do know that the world of the high priestess is the subconscious one. I have learned a lot about pagan history and lifestyles through my readings and have found some things that I like and dislike.  It interests me to hear about the harvests and collecting seeds to be stored for replanting.    Herbs and growing them is another activity that I would like to take part in.  For now, I don't have enough space to dabble in it.   ...

A pagan in New Jersey

👻💀Welcome to my book of Shadows! 👻💀 I hope you are having a magical day. Merrily met!  Today's Mantra:  I will enjoy my work without worrying about the results of my work. Japanese term: Shubun no hi (Fall Equinox) Paganism  What is Paganism?  Paganism is a religion that includes worshipping many Gods. Welcome, boys and ghouls.  I am bipolar, and here to discuss my views on life and share my interests.  I enjoy learning about Paganism. It helps me to ground myself in nature and makes me feel fulfilled.  Being bipolar has always caused me a lot of manic and depressive episodes, but with the help of medication and therapy, I am better able to deal.  I have learned how to manage my mental health and now have more time for interests such as Japanese, dating, and blogging.  I am a solo practitioner without a coven, so I'd like to take this opportunity to reach out and engage with the pagan community.  I am also a Scorpio, ruled by t...
