A pagan in New Jersey

๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ’€Welcome to my book of Shadows! ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ’€

I hope you are having a magical day. Merrily met!

Today's Mantra:  I will enjoy my work without worrying about the results of my work.

Japanese term: Shubun no hi (Fall Equinox)

Paganism

What is Paganism?  Paganism is a religion that includes worshipping many Gods.

Welcome, boys and ghouls.  I am bipolar, and here to discuss my views on life and share my interests.  I enjoy learning about Paganism. It helps me to ground myself in nature and makes me feel fulfilled.  Being bipolar has always caused me a lot of manic and depressive episodes, but with the help of medication and therapy, I am better able to deal.  I have learned how to manage my mental health and now have more time for interests such as Japanese, dating, and blogging.

I am a solo practitioner without a coven, so I'd like to take this opportunity to reach out and engage with the pagan community.  I am also a Scorpio, ruled by the Water element, obsessed with the moon.   According to the Green Wiccan Spell Book, a pagan is "a believer in Earth-based spirituality."  My adoption of this belief system gradually freed me from monotheistic limitations.  I worship the Goddess Artemis and Hekate and the God Pan.

Bipolar

1 in 4 people in the US have a mental illness.   If you are one of those people and are not diagnosed yet, perhaps it's time to get treated.  This may be challenging if you do not have insurance but it may be worth it to pay out of pocket.  The decision to get medicated and go to therapy can be a big step if you don't want to admit you need it.  Some people find it insulting to hear from a loved one that you need therapy.  I was one of those people, but I finally got the right therapist and psychiatrist.  Have any of you had this experience or something similar?  Please leave a comment.

Friday the 13th

Friday the thirteenth is known as unlucky partly due to the Norse Gods' party in Valhalla, where 12 were invited.  The thirteenth guest Loki, came uninvited and killed another God.  This unhappy event caused a lot of sadness on Earth, which went dark.  On this day one may do spells and try to improve one's luck.  Have you ever been an uninvited guest?

Full Moon Prayer

The full moon this month is on September 18th.  To commemorate this night, I will say a full moon prayer, and light some incense to honor my ancestors.  I will use this prayer:

                                                                    Celestial moon,

                                                                 I dance in your light,

to grow and learn and dream.

I will build success

with you in my mind's eye.

Thank you for your guidance

and continue to raise my energy.

Mabon in New Jersey

As it is September I would be remiss if I forgot to mention Mabon.  September is the beginning of the fall season, a special time of year for me because I live in New Jersey and enjoy the seasonal changes.  There is a lot of beauty to discover and enjoy in the Garden State.  I love to go to Edgewater and to Mitsuwa, the Japanese market.  You will find onigiri, riceballs, ramen, tempura, gyoza, and many other delicious Japanese foods there.  It's so worth the trip.
